Ascension

December 21, 2020

If poetry were a ladder, it would ascend to a place of spiritual awakening, bringing rest and justice to all who seek it.  It is the conscience of the unspoiled mind, a child’s mind. Poetry has no prejudice, selfishness, or ego. It is there, trapped in spirit, yearning to get out and share its hazard and voice. It can be raw or gentle, but it is a contemplation of hope. Poetry is the song of humanity that can be lost in the flat violence of self-centered prose, and insipid selfishness. But I believe if we say it, we can change it.

Lady Liberty

She's getting gaunt now, her bones swelling, growing like a corpse decomposing, breathing.

About Adrienne Monestere

Background Story

Writing has never been optional for Adrienne Monestere. Like eating and breathing, writing is something integral to her existence. Yet, inside there is more to writing than mere words, it's a poet's view of the turmoil because of the lack of human justice and equality in a world that boasts of democracy. It is the "why" that she asked since writing her first poem at 9 years old, "Why is life the way it is/why have I cried so many tears."

The "why" is still there, laced with the sadness of an inability of people to not just see it, but to fix it, to change it. Her writing is a plea for the decency that escapes society, sowed in the eugenics of the past.  She shares not to be famous but to raise the consciousness of the true human soul.

Quarantine

The sky’s as blue as a teardrop.

Breathing clearly now

Our last chance.
